1 st ESSENTIAL DRIVING SCHOOL CODE OF PRACTICE

Our aim is to train you to become a safe, courteous and confident driver with all the skills in place to pass your practical driving test.

What Can You Expect From Your Driving Instructor

Your driving instructor will:

  • Provide training on a one-to-one basis with no other learner in the tuition vehicle
  • Endeavour to teach and maintain skills and knowledge to comply with the Driving Standards Agency guidelines.
  • Honour the full 60 minutes for each 1-hour lesson and multiples thereof.
  • Always conduct training in a professional manner and whilst having the authority to refuse or end a lesson early, will abide by the law and not converse or act inappropriately, discriminatory, lewd or offensively.
  • Have the highest standard of personal conduct during the lesson including:

Avoiding physical contact except in case of an emergency,

Not smoking in the tuition vehicle

  • Provide a presentable, modern and properly maintained vehicle on every lesson
  • Always endeavour to be on time at the agreed meeting point and be available for the full duration of the lesson subject to unforeseen circumstances beyond your instructors control
  • Give you notice should a lesson need to be rescheduled subject to circumstances beyond your instructors control
  • Provide relevant feedback during your lesson.
  • Monitor your progress, recommend the appropriate time to apply for your practical driving test and book the test appointment on your behalf should you wish.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS APPLY

INSTRUCTOR : Your instructor will be licensed by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) to give driving tuition.

All instructors are self employed franchisees and are bound by a professional code of conduct. He/she will behave in a professional and ethical manner at all times. Your instructor’s car will be well maintained, clean and tidy. All cars are fitted with dual-controls as part of their standard equipment. The cars are of course fully insured for driving tuition.

The contract for driving tuition is solely between You and Your Instructor. You and Your Instructor are responsible for agreeing all matters relating to the payment, timing, location and duration of individual lessons.

The instructor will make every effort to train you to the highest standard but can in no way be held liable for any errors you commit whilst driving either before, during or after a test pass.

PAYMENT: Payment should be made to the instructor at the start of the lesson. Where payments are made to the instructor, 1 st Essential Driving School is not responsible for any acts, defaults or failure on the part of the instructor to carry out his/her obligations. Your instructor is a self-employed franchisee and it is his/her responsibility to safeguard money paid to him/her. Where 1 st Essential Driving School makes bookings with, or supplies any information,vouchers or documentation to You, or processes any payments for Your lessons, they act as the agent of Your Instructor.

CANCELATIONS: From time to time your instructor may need to change driving lesson times and or dates due to sickness / mechanical breakdown/adverse weather conditions etc.

After arriving at your nominated pick up point for your lesson, if there is no reply at the address in question, we will wait approximately 10 minutes. If after 10 minutes, you have not made contact or we are unable to reach you, the lesson will be abandoned and you will be required to pay for the lesson(s) in question. (Exceptions to this rule are at the discretion of the Instructor)

Unless 24 hours notice is given of cancellation, the lesson(s) must be paid for. (Exceptions to this rule are at the discretion of the Instructor)

TESTS: We cannot be held responsible if the DSA have to cancel or postpone the driving test for whatever reason.

Three days notice is needed to cancel your driving test or you will forfeit your test fee, this is because we have to give the DSA three clear working days notice.

In the interest of yours and the public's safety, your driving instructor has the right to withhold the use of his/her vehicle for your practical driving test if in their opinion you have not reached the required driving standard.

Your instructor will advise you when you are ready to apply for a driving test taking into account local waiting times. Please do not book a driving test without discussing it first with your instructor.

You must bring with you the required documents for your practical driving test. At the very least this includes both parts of your driving Licence, your theory test pass certificate, and your letter of appointment. Your instructor will advise you if you need to bring anything else. If you fail to being these documents the test may not go ahead and your fee will be lost.

THE PUPIL: Must be the holder of a current valid provisional driving licence.

Must be able to read a number plate at the required distance without/with glasses if normally worn.

Any abusive conduct either physical or verbal towards any instructor will not be tolerated and will result in the termination of your course/lessons.

It is against the law to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Any pupil suspected of being under the influence will have their tuition terminated for that day with the loss of the fee.

COMPLAINTS: Should be made to the instructor in the first instance, Failing agreement or settlement you should contact 1 st Essential driving school within 30 days of the incident who will advise accordingly. 1 st Essential will not deal with the complaint after the 30 days have elapsed.
